Question 1

How do I identify a pest from a photo?

Accepted Answer

Upload a photo to PestPro DIY's AI-powered pest identification tool. The app analyzes the image and provides a species identification, danger level, and recommended treatment plan. Visit pestprodiy.com and tap 'Identify Your Pest'.

Question 2

How do I get rid of cockroaches myself?

Accepted Answer

The most effective DIY cockroach control uses gel bait (like Advion or Maxforce) combined with an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Gentrol. Apply gel bait in small dots inside cabinets, under sinks, and along walls. Avoid spraying near the bait as it repels roaches away from it. Repeat every 30 days.

Question 3

When should I call a pest control professional?

Accepted Answer

Call a licensed pest control professional for active termite infestations inside a structure, suspected Formosan termites, bed bug infestations in multiple rooms, large wasp or hornet nests near occupied areas, wildlife intrusions, or when DIY treatments have failed after multiple attempts.

Question 4

Are scorpions dangerous?

Accepted Answer

Most US scorpion stings cause pain similar to a bee sting. However, the Arizona bark scorpion (Centruroides sculpturatus) found in Arizona and New Mexico can cause severe symptoms especially in children and elderly. If stung by a bark scorpion, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or 911 for severe symptoms.

Question 5

How do I tell if a snake is venomous?

Accepted Answer

Use PestPro DIY's Snake Identification tool — upload a photo and our AI will identify the species and determine if it is venomous. Never handle an unidentified snake. Key venomous species in the US include rattlesnakes, copperheads, cottonmouths, and coral snakes.

Question 6

What is the best treatment for termites?

Accepted Answer

For subterranean termites, a continuous liquid termiticide barrier around the foundation (using fipronil or imidacloprid) is the gold standard. DIY options include perimeter bait stations and borate wood treatments on accessible bare wood. Active infestations inside a structure typically require a licensed professional.

Question 7

How do I dispose of old pesticides?

Accepted Answer

Never pour pesticides down the drain or in trash. Use PestPro DIY's pesticide disposal locator to find a household hazardous waste (HHW) facility near you. Many counties offer free HHW collection events. Keep pesticides in their original labeled containers until disposal.

Question 8

What pests are active in my area right now?

Accepted Answer

Use PestPro DIY's Pest Calendar to see which pests are currently active in your US region. Set your location to get personalized monthly activity forecasts, seasonal prevention checklists, and treatment timing recommendations for pests like mosquitoes, ticks, ants, termites, and more.
